Road to the exam
Pass mark: 63 of 90 scored questions (70%). Exam is the MPEP 9th Ed., Rev. 01.2024 at a Prometric center; the MPEP is searchable on-screen — bring nothing. Not legal advice.
How to pass first time
- Daily reps beat cramming — 30–45 min of flashcards + a short quiz every day keeps the rules fresh.
- Drill the high-yield chapters — 600 (parts/filing date), 700 (examination/102/103/112), 1800 (PCT), 2100 (patentability), 1200 (appeals).
- Learn the deadlines cold — reply periods, the 12-month provisional/priority window, 30-month national stage, issue-fee 3 months (non-extendable), maintenance 3.5/7.5/11.5 yr.
- Practice the MPEP search — the real exam is open-MPEP; speed at finding the answer is a skill. Use Drive Mode + the quiz to build recall so you only look up what you must.
- Hit ≥75% on timed practice before scheduling the real seat.

90 scored questions on the real exam; you need 63/90 (70%). Always confirm the rule in the MPEP/37 CFR.
Hands-free Drive Mode
Two-player: it reads the question, waits the gap (you or a co-driver answer aloud), then reads the answer. Keep the screen on. Audio-only — don't look at the phone while driving.
